I’ve been a High School English teacher since 1997, and I used to struggle with how to teach writing. Most teachers will admit that traditional grammar instruction does not seem to have an impact on how students write. Over the years, I pieced together an approach based on some concrete strategies I encountered in various places. With this handbook, it is my intent to create a writing program for anyone – students, teachers, or people who aspire to add more diversity to their writing repertoire. This handbook can be used in a variety of contexts: by schools looking to bolster their writing program, or by writers who wish to experiment with different elements of style.
