Some places remember you.

Twelve-year-old Rue Liu has barely unpacked in her new neighborhood when she notices the old house across the street. No matter how hard she looks, she can never quite see it clearly. Its garden seems to shift when she looks away, three crows keep appearing nearby, and her dog, Max, refuses to cross the gate.

Rue starts recording everything in the Crow Ledger, determined to separate what actually happened from what she only thinks it means. But the evidence keeps getting stranger: a name she somehow knows, handwriting that looks almost like hers, a reflection that moves first, and an impossible room that appears where no room should be.

Then the memories begin.

Places Rue has never visited feel familiar. A lullaby seems remembered before she hears it. Objects from the old house turn up where they cannot possibly belong. And the deeper Rue investigates, the harder it becomes to tell whether she is uncovering someone else’s forgotten past-or something that has been waiting for her to remember.

Atmospheric, eerie, and full of slow-building supernatural suspense, Where the Crows Wait is a middle grade mystery about memory, identity, friendship, family, and the unsettling possibility that some stories do not end the first time they are lived.
