The Wrong Place By T. Patrick Brown – Hard Cover

Description

1. A former member of a secretive religious community is found dead in a motel outside the city, and the police are quick to treat it as suicide. But when Rachel Kim receives a package of old photographs, handwritten rules, and a single sentence They are still taking girls she begins investigating a group that disappeared from public scrutiny years ago.

The group calls itself The Family of the Open Door, a rural faith-based community that presents itself as a wholesome retreat for broken families, addicts, and lost teenagers. But former members tell Rachel a different story: children separated from parents, girls assigned spiritual guardians, men protected by silence, and a network of donors, lawyers, and local officials who made sure no one looked too closely.

Rachels investigation leads her from abandoned farms and closed court records to a woman in hiding who escaped years earlier and has been waiting for someone to believe her. But the deeper Rachel goes, the more she realizes the cult is not a relic of the past. It has rebranded. It has moved. And someone inside Rachels own city is helping it survive.
