Sonya’s Shoes, inspired by a true story about animal imprinting, is a story of friendship and self-sacrifice.

Tania’s new pet gosling cries every time Tania walks away, but it’s not for Tania that the goose is crying. It’s for her shoes! The three of them- girl, goose, and shoes – become close friends as they embark on summer adventures together. In the fall, Tania goes back to school, leaving the goose behind, and things get more complicated. Soon, snow begins to fall, forcing Tania to find the goose a new warm home. How will the two maintain their friendship when Sonya moves to warmer quarters?

Realistic illustrations are done by John Hofland in egg tempera.
