BISAC: Humorous – General
The bestselling author Nicola Kelsall brings you a comedy that follows Alex Philpot, a man whose life takes a chaotic turn when his girlfriend, Briony, becomes enamoured with a charismatic fisherman. As Alex immerses himself in writing his crime fiction novel, “Rivers of Blood,” a series of misunderstandings lead the police to suspect him of being a murderer. The story humorously explores themes of love, jealousy, and the perils of miscommunication.
Alex Philpot is slowly transmogrifying into a dull fossil when his girlfriend, Briony, becomes transfixed by a shady but charismatic fisherman who fills her head with romantic notions of life on the ocean waves. Alex takes solace in his writing – a (‘flowery’, according to Briony), crime fiction novel called Rivers of Blood. When a series of unfortunate incidents lead the police to suspect that poor Alex himself is a vicious murderer, his life becomes a living nightmare. His mother blames Briony: “Long flowing hair is a sign of blatant hedonism,” she says. “It’s not to be trusted.”
