Searching for the Qin state in the fields – A Journey to Find Qin by Nie Zuoping, a senior staff writer for Southern Weekly. The Qin people were originally a small and weak tribe living in the “Western Outpost.” After centuries of twists and turns, they gradually grew stronger and rose in the west, becoming the hegemon of the west and eventually unifying the six states. The Qin people moved their capital eight times, from Qin Yi – their first true capital – to the final capital Xianyang, carrying out arduous efforts to gain space, contend for hegemony eastward, and pursue strategic advancement. Following the migration trajectory of the Qin people, the author searches for traces of the Qin people preserved on the ground, discovers remnants of the Qin people in folk customs and culture, and through geographical exploration, investigation, and analysis, discovers the contingency and necessity of Qin’s growth from small to large, from weak to strong, and its ultimate unification of the six states. “”
