In Crossingsbrook Victoriana, villagers are taken into the early 1840’s, experiencing ever faster travel by train and steamboat, as well as learning some of the pitfalls of these technological advances. After a period of relative peace and calm, the United Kingdom is shaken by riots, labour strikes, and malaise over military incursions into numerous other nations. Parliament passes various pieces of legislation contributing to the unrest, and questionable corporate practices lead some frustrated citizens to find ways around both. Against this backdrop, members of the younger and older generations rebel against cultural assumptions that may no longer serve them well, as the struggle to modernize continues, along with counter-pressure to conserve ideals of the past. It is out of this zeitgeist that young love blooms, and mature love becomes ever more precious.
