A “peep through the window” into life in the region during the Second World War. By reconnecting audiences with oral and storytelling traditions, Wor Hoose – The Waar Years strengthens a sense of regional identity and belonging and presents Northumbrian as a living, sophisticated cultural resource.

Written in authentic Northumbrian speech, the book blends older linguistic forms with contemporary regional language. Its narrative and dialogue are presented as spoken forms, preserving the cadence, character and local knowledge of voices that standard English often excludes.
